In the sermon and in leadership as well as staying strong I think it all goes back to allowing the potter to mold you and do not let the things of this world mold you.

I absolutely love that, Jim. Cheers!!
One option would be to base a sermon on: “In order for the vessel to be finished, it must be:
1-prepared
2-centered
3-opened
4-shaped
5-fired
I have a few college-aged friends who have recently taken a ceramics class and I’ve been able to learn a little about the process, just a little. One of the cool bits that applies to life is in the preparing of the clay. The potter has to go through the clay, removing all foreign objects (rocks, hardened clay, etc.). After the clay has been centered and opened, with the help of the spinning wheel, any foreign objects in the clay will pull the clay off balance, pull the clay off center as it spins (like an unbalanced car tire). As the speed of the wheel picks us and the clay is opened further, the clay will come apart.
The firing of the clay reminds me of Malachi 3:3
Well thought out, Brad. There is so much material in your comment. One key thing that jumped out at me was your statement,
“…as the speed of the wheel picks up and the clay is opened further, the clay will come apart…”
Life speeds up. As it does and we are opened further, are we going to come apart or not? Hmmm….
Only soft clay is moldable.
We need to trust the potter as He shapes and molds us.

I would love to sit under your teaching on that one, Kevin.
Clay is a product of the earth that, when soft, becomes shaped into something beautiful and useable for another purpose. That’s the transforming power of the Holy Spirit with a willing heart.

Oh! Rich
A picture can speak a thousand words!
The first thing that came to mind after seeing the picture was that God is the potter and we are the clay.
