How To Succeed At New Year's Resolutions

New Year's resolutions require execution

What do you want?

I bet whatever it is, it fits into one of three areas: Health, Finances, or Personal Development.

Since we're coming up to the end of a year (and what a year it's been, no?), I thought I'd mention something that I believe with all my heart can be a tool for your success in the next year. I call it the 95 Club.

But first allow me to lay a foundation.

I Googled the word "stress" and I got over 1.1 billion results in a fraction of a second - all on the phone I was holding in the palm of my hand. Now, compare that to the statistics from The American Institute of Stress that indicate about 33 percent of people report feeling extreme stress. 77 percent of people experience stress that affects their physical health. And 73 percent of people have stress that impacts their mental health.

On one hand, 1.1 billion pieces of information on stress. Everything we need to know about stress and how to keep it from ruling our lives is instantly available. On the other hand statistics that clearly indicate a human condition with significant challenges with stress.

And stress isn't the only topic. Search the word "motivation" or the phrase "how to learn Spanish" or "how to change a flat tire". Again, you'll have pretty much everything you need to know right in the palm of your hands. Yet so many struggle with motivation? So many people want to learn Spanish but don't know how or where to start? So many people suffer from an irrational fear that they'll be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire and no way to get it fixed?

Here's the main point:

The challenges we face are not for

a lack of information,

but a lack of implementation.

It's like we're sitting at the table of a great feast with all the trimmings and enough to completely fill our bellies and we sit there staring in our lap at the corner of a piece of bread.

So let me ask again, what do you want?

What have you tried to accomplish and started out with great intention, but the intensity faded and you ceased the effort? How many New Years resolutions have you started that never got much past February?

What if I told you your chances of success could improve by 95 percent? What if I told you that percentage is backed up by research?

Based on the work by the American Society of Training and Development, people are 65 percent likely to meet a goal or New Year's resolution after committing to another person. And their chances of success increase to 95 percent when they build in ongoing meetings with their partners to check in on their progress.

Introducing The 95 Club. It's a system where club members meet weekly to check in with a group of fellow goal seekers, led by a trained facilitator. Club members also have access to a growing library of resources and ongoing training, and more.

Now you could start the new year on your own and risk another disappointment again. Or you could give the 95 Club a try and set yourself up for a much greater probability that you could not only meet your goals but exceed them. You could rise up out of 2020 and into a whole new exciting life of accomplishment.

Retirement can be a challenging transition for business owners. After years of building, managing, and leading their companies, stepping away often brings a mix of emotions, including uncertainty, anxiety, and even fear. As an advisor, your role is to guide clients through this significant life change, helping them reframe retirement not as an ending but as a new chapter filled with possibilities. Managing client expectations involves helping them understand that retirement isn’t just about leaving behind their business. It’s about opening the door to opportunities they may have never explored.

You start with a plan. You feel the momentum building. The first few steps feel good, maybe even great. Then, like clockwork, you find yourself right back where you started. It’s frustrating, confusing, and honestly, exhausting. Why does it keep happening? And how do you make progress that sticks this time? Here’s the truth: real change doesn’t happen because you’ve found the perfect strategy. It happens because you finally stop flirting with progress and commit to what’s already within you.

Conflict within families or stakeholder groups can quietly grow, damaging relationships and disrupting progress if left unchecked. Recognizing the early warning signs of conflict is key to addressing issues before they escalate into larger problems. This is particularly crucial when dealing with high-stakes situations like family businesses, succession planning, or shared financial decisions.

For as long as anyone could remember, Charlie was the owner of a local hardware store, Charlie's Fix-It Shop. It wasn’t just any hardware store—it was the place everyone went when they needed something fixed, something built, or simply a friendly chat. For over forty years, Charlie greeted his customers with a smile, offered advice on all things tools and gadgets, and kept the town in tip-top shape. But now, Charlie was getting older.
